Welcome Erin Foster, Data Services LibrarianErin_Foster.jpg

We are pleased to announce the recent hire of Erin Foster who will join the Ruth Lilly Medical Library Team as our new Data Services Librarian on November 7, 2016. Erin will contribute to university and campus-wide initiatives to develop policies, services, and infrastructure that enable faculty and students to curate, share, and preserve their research data. She will also actively advocate for and promote the value of research data services within the institution by collaborating with members of the Indiana School of Medicine and the University Library Center for Digital Scholarship in the development of research data sharing and curation services related to the institutional data repository, DataWorks.

Erin is a former National Library of Medicine (NLM) Fellow and has been working at the Oregon Health and Science University Library for the last year where she enhanced rare disease records in the Monarch Initiative database by adding synonyms to the Human Phenotype Ontology and annotating rare disease literature for disease associated phenotypes. She also cultivated data science and education services through the co-organization of an open science workshop/lecture series and created a subject guide on research data management.

Erin has been an active member of the Medical Library Association and serves as the Associate Editor for the Research Section’s journal, Hypothesis.  She is also an active member of the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the Medical Library Association, American Public Health Association, and FORCE11 – a research communication and e-scholarship organization.

Erin’s experience as an NLM fellow coupled with her expertise in open science, research data management, and ontologies/terminologies will be invaluable to IUSM as we expand our data services.
