Who May Use the Library?
Who May Use the Library?
The Library serves the Indiana University School of Medicine faculty, staff, and students, on all IUSM campuses. The physical library facilities are open to anyone wishing to do scholarly research in medicine/health sciences.
Doors are open to all visitors for study and research during library hours until 5pm. From 5pm until the library closes, any IUPUI or IU card will have access and Non-IU researchers may use the call box by the library entrance to request entry
Library After Hours Access
From the time the Library closes to the morning opening time, part of the library is open to IUSM students and IUSM residents for quiet study. After hours access to the library is via the 2nd floor entrance using your IUSM Jagtag. If you have access issues please inquire at the Circulation Desk.
Use of Library Computers
Users of the Library's in-house computers and networks are expected to follow University policies. Non-IU affiliated professionals, who wish to use the library computers for medical research, will need a guest log-in account. Guest log-ins are available at the circulation desk with a photo I.D. Guest passes are valid for one day. Given the limited number of computers in the medical library, IU School of Medicine researchers receive priority over guest users. The medical library’s online resources are also available from computers at other campus libraries offering public computer access.
Printing is available for a small fee per page with the purchase of a copy card. Copy cards will pay for printing as well as photocopying.
Remote Access - Off Campus & VPN Access
To access the Medical Library resources from off campus/remotely, you will need an IUPUI computer username and password. These are issued by University Information Technology Services UITS.
To streamline access to Medical Library resources, we recommend the use of the Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Adjunct and Volunteer IUSM Faculty
All Adjunct and Volunteer IUSM faculty may obtain a University Computer Username and Password, once the formal appointment process is complete and the record is in the University's Human Resources Database. Follow the University Information Technology Services' instructions for "Creating my First IU Computing Accounts."
At Indiana University, retired faculty and staff can have a computing account, which allows access to library resources. To receive this computing account, you must be retired according to IU's criteria. For a list of the age and service requirements necessary to qualify as an official retiree, see Retiree Status and Benefits.
Currently, alumni are not authorized for an IU computing account, unless also affiliated with Indiana University as student, staff, faculty, retiree or affiliate appointment.
