The Story of Indiana's Civil War Soldiers

The Story of Indiana's Civil War Soldiers: Health, Hospitals and Those Who Cared for Them

These are excerpts from newspapers published during the Civil War concerning the health of Indiana regiments on and off the battlefield. There are also descriptions of hospitals in which Indiana soldiers were cared for and passages about the people who cared for them. This was the information the citizens at home were reading as a the war went on. Not all localities in Indiana have servicing newspapers for all of the years 1861-1865. Also, the reports on the wounded and sick were less frequently covered as the war progressed.

The name of the newspaper appears first and the date of the newspaper second.  If a clipping is from a letter to written to the newspaper, the letter format is maintained.   Where possible explanatory material appears in brackets.
